EEIKO (www.eeiko.es) is a multi-platform application that enables having a global vision of the spatial distribution of invasive alien flora species. With this information, this application enables the invasive alien species managers form the environmental authorities management tools to solve and monitor this problem, available in the “Management Area” of this application. EEIKO is based on citizen participation, because the citizens will be able to fill in new locations of invasive flora species. These locations will be validated by experts in this matter afterwards. This information would be use by environmental authorities. EEIKO has a private area for these environmental managers in charge of developing corrective actions against invasive alien flora species. This private area offers a great variety of management tools to help these managers to design corrective actions, monitor them and analyze their ecological and economic results. It has an early warning. The database contains the following fields: coordinates, where the species is found, the size of the population, the date of the location, and the category. The locations are in Spain now, but the project hopes to have locations in other European countries soon. This project, made by Basoinsa (www.basoinsa.com) with collaboration of Geograma (www.geograma.com), has received funding by the Diputación Foral de Bizkaia inside of its Innovation Plan 2013. This project has also received funding by the Department of Economic Development & Commerce and the European Regional Development Fund. This project also involved some botanist as Amador Prieto, and Mercedes Herrera and Juan Antonio Campos (Dept. Plan Biology and Technology. Faculty of Science and Technology. University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU).
