Description

La colección paleontológica del "Museu de Ciències Naturals de Barcelona", en fase de inventario y documentación, está constituida por una cantidad estimada de más de doscientos mil ejemplares fósiles. En la colección hay una amplia representación de todos los grupos biológicos, con fósiles de vertebrados, invertebrados, protistas y plantas, así como de icnofósiles (estructuras etológicas fósiles).

Los especímenes proceden, principalmente, de localidades europeas, aunque hay también una representación importante de localidades de otras partes del mundo, como es el caso de las del continente americano. Por lo que respecta a la edad geológica, los fósiles de la colección cubren la mayor parte del espectro geocronológico, con representantes del Paleozoico (aprox. 500 millones de años) hasta el Cuaternario-reciente.

[EN] The general collection of Paleontology consist of more than 30.000 specimens and it are integreded by fossils of invertebrates, vertebrates and plants. This collection began with the entrance of the collection of Lluís Marià Vidal in 1922. This collection, with 7.817 registration numbers, is integrated by a great variety of fossil species from differents periods and basins, so much Spanish as European; although rich in fossil vertebrates and plants, most of these specimens corresponds to all type of fossil invertebrates. To the general collection other important collections have been added, not only in the past, like the collection of the Real Academy of Sciences and Arts of Barcelona (entered in 1926), but also in the last years, like it is the case of the collection of Mr. Isidro Gurrea, registered partially in 1995. Most of the specimens of these two collections corresponds to invertebrate. The rest of materials registered in the last years comes basically from investigation projects, where technicians of the Museum of Geology of Barcelona participate, and some donations entirely composed by invertebrates.
